WHAT'S BEHIND THE RHINO
By Doug Stevens Sunday, January 10, 2010
The Renewal Project comes alongside leaders who need to face the truth, tell the truth, make tough decisions and move ahead with confidence, energy and effectiveness. Our role as executive coach and team consultant for a wide variety of organizations also calls upon a deep sensitivity to the needs and issues of the leaders we serve.
Our tournament logo, the Rhino, represents the strength and power of this renewal in our personal lives, in our relationships, and in our communities. And if you look closer, you will see a butterfly perched precariously on the horn of the massive beast. This carefully calibrated dynamic -- strong and sensitive, tough and tender, aggressive and patient, confrontational and encouraging -- distinguishes our approach to the challenges and opportunities for renewal we must engage in the 21st Century.
WHY SUPPORT THIS EVENT
By Linda Szymanski Sunday, January 10, 2010
All proceeds from the event support the Renewal Project’s work with youth in the inner City of Oakland; with local small business owners in this challenging season of economic recovery; and with spiritual communities throughout the Bay Area who are providing stability for families, reconciliation in a fragmented society, and hope for everyone in distress.
We believe that supporting and connecting ministries in this way and in this place is a great privilege. We hear many testimonials from ministry leaders encouraging us to step up our level of partnership and even of our leadership. And so, with an increased understanding of this environment, and with a dramatically deepening affection, we are leaning into this new year with high expectations -- committed to serving leaders in every way we can so that they will be at full strength --- confident, hopeful, and even joyful about their work.
Our work with youth in Oakland
Providing strong leadership and role models of integrity for teenage boys at risk is a critical and timely new initiative. For these young men to have any chance of success requires ongoing care and commitment by mature men who will be mentors invested in their well-being. The Renewal Project works with agencies in Oakland to recruit and equip mentors who will teach the basic life skills, instill a strong set of moral values, promote individual growth, and provide a roadmap for positive achievement.
The Renewal Project partners with the Pastors of Oakland and 50+ churches in support of the above. They work together to find potential mentors, to provide training venues for the program, and to promote this initiative to the community - all with the hope of providing generational renewal, family, and community renewal in Oakland.
Our work with small business owners
Facilitating The Leadership Connection Business Connection Groups that bring business and community leaders together to equip/encourage these men and women for the stresses that come with leadership. Through small groups and individual coaching/consulting, we help leaders understand what it means to be part of a team; clarify vision and purpose; build strategic business plans; and provide much-needed insight, accountability, and collective wisdom for both business and personal growth.
Our work with spiritual communities
Presenting 4.20.21 A Conference for pastors, local church, business and community leaders who are determined to become more missional where we live, work, play, worship, serve, and connect and with people in places we've never even considered.
Facilitating an 18-month cohort for senior pastors to think deeply, broadly, and critically about the church and its transition toward the meaning and practice of missional.
Hosting retreats and seminars, tackling topics that are critical and timely and stimulate new outreach to various cultures and communities

OVERVIEW OF THE RENEWAL PROJECT
By Linda Szymanski Sunday, January 10, 2010
The Renewal Project (TRP) was founded in 1996 by Doug Stevens to strengthen the health, vitality and effectiveness of the local church and para-church organizationsin their commitment to serve the community.
After 13 years of service in the Bay Area, throughout Northern California, along the West Coast, and internationally, The Renewal Project continues to come alongside pastors, leaders and directors--- across denominational, generational and ethnic lines --- for the purpose of guiding and encouraging those who set the values, tone and direction for their essential mission.
We focus much of our efforts in Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, and other needy East Bay communities -- and on fruitful, mutually beneficial connections between urban and suburban pastors, congregations, and leaders throughout this region.
Doug and his colleagues coach/consult and support a range of renewal efforts to churches, businesses, schools and individuals. Our work is to cultivate key relationships, develop strategic partnerships, convene gatherings for mutual blessing, create retreat and conference settings that open up opportunities for learning and advancement, share resources that are crucial for deepening and growing organizations.

TOURNAMENT TEAM
By Terry Camp Sunday, January 10, 2010
The Renewal Project Golf Tournament was conceived and organized by five local CEO's who journeyed together in 2001 on The Renewal Project's first Costa Rica Adventure, led by Doug Stevens. The Costa Rica Adventure is a safe opportunity for a small group of businessmen to get away for a week in a remote environment and be physically challenged, mentally stimulated, spiritually encouraged, and relationally nurtured by each other. There have been seven trips to date providing renewal and a world-class experience to almost 50 men. Thank you to Al Bartizal, Brian Farrugia, Neil Holmes, Olin Jones, and Jose Munoz for their vision and dedication to get the Rhino Open started! If you are interested visit the Renewal Project website or ask one of us about it.
